Fountain Blue casino hotel could already be in trouble

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Standard and Poors believes that the Fountain Blue hotel resort in Las Vegas could have trouble making its interest payments once it opens:
Absent condo sales, Fontainebleau will have an interest burden of about $200 million on debts of $2.9 billion, S&P said. Earnings are expected to fall short of interest payments, which could trigger a default.
S&P, which rates the bonds of major gaming operators, has slashed earnings projections for Fontainebleau along with some other gaming operators. S&P also cut the resort’s credit rating.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Elad has won approval to use the Plaza name for its 6 or 8 or whatever billion dollar casino they plan on building on the Las Vegas Strip. Lets not get too excited for this yet, there is that little thing called the global credit crisis bringing the world to its knees.
I guess the judge thought these two structures wouldnt end up confusing Las Vegas visitors:

Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Continue Seeking Applicants for New Job Opportunities as Nevada’s Unemployment Rate Rises
Despite the escalating unemployment rate in Nevada and nationally, Wynn continues to accept applications for 5,300 newly created job opportunities, as it prepares to unveil Encore, the new signature resort in the Wynn collection. Wynn and Encore began accepting applications in July and have already received more than 65,000 job inquiries. Encore is scheduled to open in December 2008 with suite reservations now being accepted for dates starting in January 2009.
Current openings at Encore span a cross-section of departments including housekeeping, hotel operations, and security, food and beverage, retail and casino operations. Opportunities are also available at Wynn Las Vegas. Read more

CityCenter’s Harmon Hotel construction problem

The Las Vegas Review Journal is reporting that construction of the Harmon Hotel at MGM’s City Center has slowed because some structural work was found not to match building plans submitted to Clark County. The good news is that it does not appear to be serious, since the county has declared that the building is still safe and is allowing construction workers to fix the problem. Read more

Bank buys Cosmopolitan casino from itself

The bank that foreclosed on the Cosmopolitan casino hotel, Deutsche Bank, the bank that foreclosed on the Cosmopolitan casino a while back, just found a buyer for the troubled resort - Deutsche Bank!
Las Vegas Sun reports the news, saying the transaction “a bit of good news for the property.”
Not quite sure if I consider the fact that nobody else was really interested in buying the thing, so Deutsche had to sell the thing to itself, good news. But I guess it looks like construction will continue and the Cosmo will eventually get built with a 2010 opening date. Read more
