Wouldnt it be great if there was someplace you could go that would let you travel back in time? Well there is, its called Las Vegas.

As a proud Las Vegas homeowner, based on your homes current market value you are living in 2003 again, according to Zillow.com.

Now only if Vegas had a fountain of youth (i dont think the Bellagio’s fountain qualifies).

I know I’m about a week and a half late on this post, and everyone knows by now that Echelon casin project has been put on hold for at least 9 months due to the credit crisis.  Wall Street cheered the announecement, but unfortunately a lot of people who needed good paying jobs will have to wait a lot longer now.  I do not believe they really hired for a lot of job positions at this point at Echelon, but the Las Vegas economy was really counting on those jobs to take up a lot of slack.  And dont forget of course, there were a lot of construction workers already working at the Echelon site.

So here are a couple of articles that talks about the delay in Job openings at Echelon in Las Vegas.  Read more

A lounge in which everything is made of ice is about to become the hottest destination in the United States; and, the forecast calls for Las Vegas, known for its 100-degree heat, to become a whole
lot cooler — as cold as ice. This September, New Zealand-based Minus 5 Group begins an American ice age when it opens the first permanent ice lounge experience ever in the United States at Mandalay Place, located adjacent to Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on the famous Las Vegas Strip.

Building an ice lounge in the middle of the desert is no easy task, but
with years of knowledge and expertise Minus 5, a world renowned hospitality
group famous for their unparalleled ice lounge creations, the scorching Mojave
Desert is the perfect location to showcase this incredible experience. The
Las Vegas location will be the first of many U.S.-based Minus 5 ice lounges,
with other locations currently in the development stage in New York, Miami,
Hawaii, and Los Angeles.

“We look forward to being the first full-sized ice lounge attraction of
this kind in the United States. We take pride in being one of the most
visited man-made attractions in Australia and New Zealand, and look forward to
recreating that experience in the U.S.,” said Craig Ling, president and
founder of Minus 5. “We are excited to introduce what is a truly unique
experience to an American audience and we believe Las Vegas is the perfect
city to continue our global expansion.”  Read more

Velvet Ropes, $1000 bottle service, half-naked silicone enhanced blondes (except topless)…no its not Las Vegas nightlife, its Las Vegas daylife.

The new ultra-pool scene that started with the Hard Rock’s Sunday Rehab pool party has swept Vegas and has changed the way people party in Sin City. Think of it as spring break on steroids for the 20-40 year old set.  Read more

Las Vegas Gaming revenue dropped by more than 16% in the month of May, making it the biggest single month drop in more than 10 years. This means that its even worse than after 9/11 - when people basically stopped flying in the US. This cant be good for the results for June, July, and August, which are typically viewed as the “slow” months when there arent a lot of big conventions Read more

A naked man was arrested after stealing a beer and hijacking a transit bus several miles northeast of the Las Vegas Strip, police said.

Here is something a little scary:

  • 1/2 of those tourists driving are coming from Southern California

So that mean about 25% of tourists to Las Vegas drive from Southern California.  Now, Read more

I love Vegas, but the economy really, really sucks. Theres really no other way to put it. Here are two recent articles that sum up how bad things are. If you follow the stocks of MGM, LVS, WYNN, BYD and others, you dont need me to tell you how bad things blow.  Read more

When creating DDoVegas, I thought the format was a pretty good idea - a one-stop shop for people interested in vegas. The downside though, was the amount of time it takes each day to put the post together. Since the amount of traffic the site received after I made the announcement was “lukewarm” at best, its hard to justify putting so much time into something that isnt getting enough traffic, so I will no longer provide the amount of daily detail that I had started to.

The good news though is that I am not abandoning the idea, but I will probably make a few changes. First, instead of having this site basically be a bunch of links to news events, I am going to make it a regular blog.  I will write primarily about the Las Vegas casino business and tourism industry, and will try to keep the topics relevant to Macao.  Also, I’ll probably write 2-3 times a week rather than the 5-6 times I was previously shooting for.  If I eventually get the traffic levels up then I’ll probably do daily posts.

Also, with the time I free up by making this change, I will create a new daily Macau blog that Im sure you will all find useful.  The blog will focused on daily news in Macau (still primarily relating to casinos and tourism), so it will be  broader in scope than CCN, more frequent, but will have less commentary and more links to good stories.

I’ll probably start it this weekend so keep an eye out for it.
