lion-king-las-vegas

Vegas. Land of topless pools, topless shows, and the Lion King? I thought we went through the kiddie phase and it was rejected for some good old fashioned R rated fun. Now it looks like Vegas may be getting so desperate for bodies to fill their rooms that they are going back to the kiddie stuff.  Read more

criss-angel-show-believe-las-vegas

Yuck.  These are some pretty lousy reviews.  I was never a fan of the guy so i really cant feel sorry for him.  But still, does anyone deserve this type of criticism???

  • “Believe” is a possibly unsalvageable “waste of time” and a “dead end”
  • ‘bull—-’
  • train wreck
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, he declared “Believe” a zero.
  • “It’s about a bunch of ‘rabbits’ dancing around in costume.”
  • It’s something that should be in a variety show

The scarey part is that these reviews Read more

minus 5 ice lounge las vegas mandalay bay

The first U.S. permanent ice lounge has opened at Mandalay Place, adjacent to Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

The 2,000 sq. ft. Minus 5 Experience welcomed its very first patrons with an “Elvis sighting,” an unveiling of a life-sized ice Elvis, complete with signature pompadour, glasses, side-burns, and guitar. On a day when the temperature topped 90 degrees in Las Vegas, the inside of the newly opened Minus 5 ice lounge pushed the mercury to a frigid 23 degrees Fahrenheit, or, true to its name “minus 5″ Celsius.

Owned and operated by the Minus 5 Group, a New Zealand-based company that has “ice-cool” attractions with six other Minus 5 ice lounges currently in operation in three countries around the globe, the new Ice Lounge, located in Mandalay Place adjacent to Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is certain to be one of the new “must experience” attractions in Las Vegas.

“Las Vegas is the perfect city to launch Minus 5 in the United States — it creates a great juxtaposition of a frigid, winter wonderland in the hot arid desert,” said Craig Ling, president and founder of Minus 5. “We are excited to introduce what is a truly unique experience to an American audience and we believe Las Vegas Read more

Las Vegas Sun is reporting that Harrah’s has backed out of its plans to build an arena on the land it owns on the Las Vegas Strip.   What better way to drive an additional 20,000 people through your casino then building a sports arena adjacent to all your properties?  I always thought this was a great move for Harrahs since they already had the land and a JV partner was willing to contribute the catpital

I have not found a reason why Harrahs has backed out, but if I had to venture a guess, it would be that massive amount of debt they are carrying on their balance sheet now from their recent LBO.  Throw in very weak economy and I could see why they might be a bit skittish.

While an arena on the Las Vegas Strip is a really interesting idea, could you imagine what traffic would be like on the night of a concert or sporting event a disaster.

Also, since this arena article mentions the goal of landing a professional hockey team for the arena developers, let me just say Vegas deserves a professional sports team.  And since we already know Vegas hates the NBA, hockey would be perfect.  The city would embrace a hockey team like no other expansion city has in the NHL. There was talk a few years ago of the Pittsburgh Penguins moving to Vegas but that never panned out.  Too bad, look what they’re missing…
