(Obviously M Resort’s lightship wont be advertising chicken sandwiches)

M Resort, Spa and Casino, an all-new $1 billion resort to be completed in March of 2009 on South Las Vegas Boulevard, has signed an exclusive agreement with The Lightship Group, the world’s largest airship operator, to bring a new era in outdoor advertising and entertainment — a flying electronic lightship, which is one of only three in the world — to the Las Vegas sky beginning in September.

On the forefront of outdoor advertising and the use of visual stimulation to drive sales, M Resort will be home to the twin-engine A-170LS video lightship, which is essentially an electronic lightsign on a blimp. Utilizing an array of LEDs (light emitting diodes) the lightship features the world’s largest 70′ x 30′ aerial television screen. It is able to broadcast a multitude of media from live television and streaming video, to web sites and static images and offers vibrant full-color clarity.  Read more

Parkas, boots and mittens are about to become mainstays in Las Vegas nightlife fashion, as a lounge made entirely of ice opens at Mandalay Place, located adjacent to Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas in September.

The first permanent ice lounge of its kind in the U.S., the 2,000 sq. ft. Minus 5 Experience is a sub-freezing ice lounge that is owned and operated by the Minus 5 Group, a New Zealand-based company that has “ice-cool” attractions with six other Minus 5 ice lounges currently in operation in three countries around the globe. To catch a glimpse of this “cool” attraction, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y73frhcai14.

The Minus 5 Experience

Guests are invited to come in from the Las Vegas 100-degree heat and don Minus 5-issued parkas and booties over their t-shirts and flip-flops. Then the arctic adventure begins, as patrons enter the ethereal blue and white world of the shimmering Minus 5 ice lounge. An icy wonderland of intricately hand-crafted ice sculptures and architecture, guests are promptly served an ice glass filled with exotic vodka-based cocktails (”mocktails” are also available for the kids or non-drinkers). Then, guests can relax on ice couches and enjoy what is literally the coolest lounge on the planet where the temperature is a constant -5 degrees Celsius or 23 degrees Fahrenheit.  Read more

Palazzo turning this into its new Sports Book.  Heres the release:

Business mogul Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter and his partners have announced today the sale of the 40/40 Club in Las Vegas for an undisclosed amount. The 24,000 square floor ultra sports bar and lounge located in The Palazzo and Casino, will not operate under the 40/40 brand, as the sale is for the lease and not the naming rights.

I have to admit, I have a love hate relationship with casino carpets.  95% of the casino carpets I’ve seen in my years of travel resemble carpets Ive had during college that were stained with vomit, cigarette burns, and other things I wont mention.  Yet, a casino wouldnt be a casino without these offensively interesting designs.

The Reno Gazette Journal has a very good article all about casino carpets, and I highly recommend anyone as fascinated by these repulsive rugs as me check it out.

las vegas hookers

Yes, you read it right…Walking Hooker Billboards!

If you’ve ever walked up/down the Las Vegas Strip, you’ll notice two things.  First, the walk from one casino to the next is actually a lot longer than it looks on a  map.  Second, you’ll notice all those little guys (and women) that dont speak english slapping their little hooker cards to try and get your attention.  And if they do get your attention (and even if they dont) they’ll try and shove their full color hooker cards in your face.

Now, thanks to modern technology, these same guys are now 100% certain to get your attention.  They have been transformed into walking high definition, full color 1080 pixel billboards of hookers.    Read more

If you have never seen this video of the shooting that took place at the Caesar’s hotel elevator lobby last year, check it out. Its nuts, or actually, the guy is nuts. I just stumbled across this news item that the shooter has been sentenced to three to sixteen years in jail. I wonder if they slapped some extra time on for stupidity? He must have been the only tourist to visit Vegas that didnt realize his every action was being recorded by about a dozen security cameras every second.
